Texas Envirothon
The Texas Envirothon is an annual science competition for middle and high school students. Teams prepare for months to discuss environmental issues and present their findings in a 20-minute presentation. They then travel to the national competition in August. The sponsors of the event to cover the cost of the trip. In 2013, 57 teams represented 47 U.S. states and nine Canadian provinces and territories. The Texas Envirothon has received $175,000 in scholarship funds, host grants, and other prizes. The Richardson High School team won the Texas Envirothon championship this year. Clear Lake High School took second place. The teams, made up of Hayley Smith, Olivia Brown, Patrick Mishler, Annalisa Mach, and Caroline Cummings, won the competition. The students will now compete in the NCF-Envirothon in Pocatello, Idaho. After the state finals, the Texas Envirothon team will compete at the national level to compete for scholarships.
